Former Egyptian footballer, Abdelrehim Mohamed, died of a heart attack last night after the match Egypt lost to Saudi Arabia in the 2018 World Cup with a goal in overtime, local media reported today.
Mohamed, who was analyzing the match for Egyptian television Al Nil, began to feel ill after Saudi Arabia's second goal, according to former goalkeeper Ahmed Fauzi, who was commentating the match on the same channel.
The former player, who was also a coach for a local club, was then taken to a nearby hospital from the broadcaster in central Cairo, where he died of a heart attack. "He asked us to turn off the air conditioning and tried to go to the bathroom, but he couldn't, then he fell and never answered us again," the goalkeeper said in an interview with a local media outlet.
Saudi Arabia defeated Egypt 2-1 with a goal in overtime, scored by Villarreal midfielder Salem Al Dawsary. With that defeat, Egypt ended its participation in the World Cup after losing all the matches in Group A. EFE
