The Colombian National Team urges its fans in Russia 2018 to avoid bad behavior
The Colombian National Team pleaded with its fans at Russia 2018 to avoid bad behavior. In a message posted on Twitter on Wednesday, the team asked its fans to show the due respect after the release of a video showing a fan taking advantage of the language barrier.
The Colombian fan made Japanese fans repeat vulgar words in Spanish, causing uproar on social media. It should be noted that this was a situation very similar to the one a Peruvian fan had with a Russian fan a few days ago.
Select Colombia: the keys that explain their surprising defeat against Japan
"Compatriots, coming to Russia 2018 to support our national team is a gesture that we deeply appreciate. But if you made that effort, do it while respecting women, opponents, and the laws of the host country," urges the Colombian National Team in a tweet signed by the president of their Federation, Ramón Jesurún.
The fan apologized
Colombian radio station Blu posted an interview with Guillermo Morales Cárdenas on their website, who according to them, was the person making fun of the Japanese women after Colombia's defeat against Japan in Saransk. The man, an engineer, said he was drunk when he recorded the video and offered apologies.
