2018 World Cup is characterized by being the most technological in history, referees have added smartwatches, VAR, and even reliable and immediate communication systems with their colleagues to their tools. However, they are not the only ones who rely on technology, the selected teams also depend on it.
The Germany National Team knows about it. Joachim Löw, the team's coach, commented: "The players nowadays belong to a different generation, they need visual stimulation. They are not simple receivers of orders, they want to see and review the game actions from different angles by themselves. They want information, criticism, and above all, solutions."
Since the 2006 World Cup, their assistants have started editing video montages of each potential player who could be included in the selection. This same philosophy has been applied in Russia 2018, but with much more advanced technologies.
In the coach's opinion, the possibilities of computing and their use represent "5 to 10% of the team's success". Of course, he himself has declared himself a follower of his intuition to choose his line-ups, he will not let himself be influenced by data for his final decision, but the players will always be supported by technology during their campaign for the 2018 World Cup.
