Universitario de Deportes announced the hiring of Chilean coach Nicolás Córdova for the remainder of the season. The new coach, who replaces Pedro Troglio, will be introduced at noon at the Monumental stadium.
The last team Córdova, 39, coached was Santiago Wanderers, with whom he won the 2017 Copa Chile, his first official title as a coach. In March, he mutually agreed to terminate his contract.

Welcome, Nicolás! 👏🏼👏🏼#DTNicolásCordova
The former football player spent most of his career in Italy playing for teams like Brescia, Parma, Ascoli, and Livorno. He graduated as a coach in Italy and in October 2014, he became an assistant to Hugo Tocalli in the Chile U20 national team.
He made his coaching debut in 2016 when he took over at Palestino.
The new coach of 'U' will have a tough job: to lift the team from the bottom of the table. They are currently in 13th place in the overall standings with just 18 points. Results have been elusive: they haven't won in eight matches (six draws and two losses).
