Being part of the Spanish national team is not easy. Not so much because of the selection process, but because the fans are quite demanding, especially with the 2018 World Cup approaching. That's why Iago Aspas decided to speak out.
The Celta international striker expressed his discomfort with the comments about Spain's recent results in friendly matches leading up to the World Cup. He assured that the team is doing well, but that the criticism will only affect them.
"People wanted eight goals against Switzerland and ten against Tunisia. Sometimes we don't give as much importance to victories. It is true that we come from winning 6-1 against Argentina, but the opponents also play and they are well-trained teams," he revealed.
Aspas' statements after the game, admitting with honesty that they had better feelings before, were clarified by the Galician striker after seeing the commotion they generated in the mixed zone after the hard-fought victory against Tunisia.
"Points always get magnified when the national team doesn't have a great game. We have had better ones, but the opponent also plays, they were brave and surprised us all. We had to solve it in the end," he admitted.
And above all, he gave importance to winning in each competition. "It reassures me to win, as long as I win I will be calm. We like to win, I come from a season at Celta where we played wonderful football against great opponents and it didn't translate into results. No national team had an easy qualification, it is also difficult to beat opponents who don't have as much fame." EFE
