This is the moment Sir Kenny Dalglish was cheered by his family hours after winning a knighthood in the Queen’s Birthday Honours.

The Liverpool legend was filmed celebrating at the Bistrot Verite restaurant in Southport on Friday evening with his family.

Staff at the restaurant crowded around the former manager - who will now be known as ‘Sir Kenny’ - singing “He’s a jolly good fellow”.

The scene was captured by Liverpool fan Martin Gautrey, who congratulated Sir Kenny on the award.

The French restaurant also congratulated the football legend, writing on Instagram: "So Happy for soon to be Sir Kenny Dalglish and his lovely family on his Knighthood. You don’t get many nights like these is little Bistrot Verite!"

The LFC legend was given the award following his remarkable achievements in sport and his steadfast support for the Hillsborough families in their lengthy quest for justice.

Hundreds of ECHO readers piled in to congratulate Sir Kenny on the news on Saturday morning, with many saying that his knighthood was “long overdue”.

One reader, Steve McKee, said he had a “tear in his eye of pride for Kenny”.

He wrote on Facebook: “We’ve all got a story to tell about Kenny & Marina. What they did for a family I know following Hillsborough, just amazing. Wonderful people, richly deserved.”

Ann Irvine wrote: “Fabulous, he has always been Liverpool’s King and a great Sir. God Bless Him.”

Mark Ribbands added: “About time too. Total legend at LFC and the footballing community. Well done King Kenny.”

Hundreds of readers joined the conversation voicing similar opinions, saying it was “about time” Sir Kenny was given the award.
