South American 2018: Inés Melchor won gold in the 10,000 meters and Gladys Tejeda achieved silver.

Athletics continues to add medals for the Peruvian delegation at the Cochabamba 2018 South American Games. This afternoon, it was Inés Melchor who gave the country the gold medal in the women's 10,000 meters.

The national achieved first place in the race with a time of 35 minutes and 57 seconds, leaving behind fellow Peruvian Gladys Tejeda who earned the silver medal at the GAMC Athletics Stadium in the Bolivian town.

It was a total Peruvian spectacle. In the last laps, both Inés and Gladys fought step by step for first place, leaving Ecuadorian Carmen Toaquiza far behind. But it was Inés who managed to gain an advantage in the last lap.

Earlier, Luis Ostos won the bronze medal in the men's 5,000 meters in a tight final. Ecuadorean Bayron Piedra finished in 14m:32.47 seconds, Bolivian Vidal Manani in 14m:32.58, and the Peruvian finished in 14m:32.79.

In the morning, Kimberly García won the gold in the 20 km race walk, where Luis Henry Campos (50 km) and César Rodríguez (20 km) won the silver medals.

Also, shooter Marco Carrillo gave a silver medal to the national delegation. He did it in the 25-meter rapid fire pistol event.
