The Best Player in the World: Cristiano Ronaldo
Cristiano Ronaldo is a star no matter where he goes, whether it be with Real Madrid or even with the Portugal national team. This was evidenced by his Portuguese teammate, Cédric Soares, who assured that he is "the best in the world" and showed confidence prior to the 2018 World Cup in Russia.
"There are no guaranteed positions in the national team, regardless of being the best in the world," Soares said about Cristiano Ronaldo, who completed the team's roster yesterday at the sports city of Oeiras, near Lisbon.
The Southampton right back stated to the media that he does not have an advantage to be part of the starting lineup that coach Fernando Santos will field against Spain in the first match of the World Cup, which will take place in Sochi on June 15th.
Soares emphasized that the preparation for the World Cup is going well and that the group is united. "We already have the best player in the world," Soares highlighted, praising Cristiano Ronaldo once again.
The Portuguese player also stated that there is a certain anxiety within the Portuguese national team, something that was also mentioned by the country's Prime Minister, António Costa, who visited the players at the training camp.
"Being European champions is a responsibility, but it cannot weigh us down. We have to enter the field with joy, we have reasons to face the World Cup with optimism and confidence," Costa said.
