Cyclist Richard Carapaz arrives in the country this afternoon
Ecuadorian cyclist Richard Carapaz is scheduled to arrive this Wednesday afternoon at the Quito airport, and then hold a press conference at the Telefónica facilities, in the Ekopark of the capital.
Carapaz finished in fourth place in the general classification of the Giro d'Italia and was just 47 seconds away from reaching the podium for the pink jersey, and at the same time from winning the white jersey for the young classification, which went to Colombian Miguel Ángel López. However, the cyclist from Carchi wore the white jersey for eight stages, from the sixth to the thirteenth, and also won the eighth stage alone.
On Thursday the 31st, he plans to tour some streets of Quito in a caravan starting from the Tribuna de los Shyris, following through Eloy Alfaro, República, Amazonas, until reaching the Bicentenario Park.
He will then travel to Ibarra, Julio Andrade, and Tulcán, where another caravan will take place starting from the Obelisco of that city to the Central Plaza, where he will arrive to receive an award from the authorities of the province of Carchi.
Representatives of the Judiciary Council prepare to present evidence of defense in the impeachment trial
At 9:00 am today, representatives of the Judiciary Council (CJ) are expected to attend the National Assembly to present their evidence of defense in the impeachment trial brought against them.
On May 21st, the Fiscalization Committee began to receive the evidence for and against in the impeachment trial against CJ President Gustavo Jalkh and the members of the council, accused of not fulfilling their duties.
Legislators Esteban Bernal (CREO) and Raúl Tello (BIN) are the main accusers.
Bernal presented a report from the Comptroller's Office which, in his opinion, is "irrefutable and convincing"; in it, he argues that there would have been interference in the justice system by appointing fiscal agents who did not have the required score.
Hearing to take testimonies from two agents prosecuted in the case of Fernando Balda's kidnapping
At 10:30 am today, at the National Court of Justice, a hearing is scheduled to take the anticipated testimonies of intelligence agents Raúl Chicaiza and Jéssica Falcó, prosecuted as the masterminds of the kidnapping of politician Fernando Balda in Bogotá, Colombia.
Meanwhile, former President Rafael Correa gave his free and unsworn version in this case on May 24th, via telematics, from the Consulate in Brussels, Belgium, where he has been living since July 2017.
"The scale of my kidnapping reaches the office of former President Rafael Correa. That's why I believe he is the main suspect as the mastermind," said Balda, who claimed that the former president had a lot to do and say in this case.
Funeral procession for the journalistic team of Diario El Comercio who were kidnapped and killed
At 11:00 am today, starting from the Tribuna de los Shyris, a funeral procession will begin with the car used by the journalistic team of Diario El Comercio to travel to Mataje, Esmeraldas, whose three members were kidnapped and later killed by a dissident group of the FARC led by alias "Guacho".
Since April 13th, when President Lenín Moreno confirmed the death of the three journalists from the Quito newspaper, their bodies have not yet been recovered, despite the efforts made by the International Red Cross for that purpose.
The criminal group of alias "Guacho" has not yet indicated the location where the remains are so that their families can bury them, although the only thing that has been confirmed is that they were killed in Colombian territory. (I)
