Han Solo: A Star Wars Story
“Han Solo: A Star Wars Story” is a collaboration between Disney and Lucasfilm. With this feature film, the story of one of the key characters in the history of the first two original trilogies of Star Wars, Han Solo, was presented.
Despite seeming like an attractive proposition at the box office, the opposite was true. Since its release, "Han Solo: A Star Wars Story" has generated an estimated $101 million in just the first weekend of its release in the United States, according to Disney.
In comparison, 'Rogue One', the other film outside the new Star Wars trilogy, earned $290 million in just its debut weekend at the box office. "Whenever the numbers fall below projections, there is a sense of disappointment, and the Star Wars brand for better or worse is always subject to high box office expectations," said Paul Dergarabedian, senior media analyst at comScore.
But is this enough impact to cancel the following releases planned by Disney regarding other characters? Surpassing $100 million doesn't seem like much for the American giant; however, it is a solid start for any feature film. The company will have to change its marketing strategy for its upcoming productions.
