Former Cienciano player, talked about the unfortunate death of Freddy Ternero. 'Juanca' was part of the team that won the Copa Sudamericana (2003) and Recopa Sudamericana (2004) titles, under the command of the national coach.
"I am moved and very hurt by the death of Freddy Ternero. It has surprised us all. We knew he was in poor health. We had made plans with some teammates to go see him. But Freddy didn't want visitors. I am deeply hurt. Freddy and I have had great and difficult moments together. He even called me when he was admitted to the hospital, and I was able to read the messages he sent me at the time," said Juan Carlos Bazalar in statements to ATV+.
Juan Carlos Bazalar praised the character of national coach Freddy Ternero. "Tomorrow we will meet the players from Cienciano (2003-2004). All of us who were close to Freddy Ternero. Those of us who experienced great moments and know what he was like as a person and coach. As a person, he always behaved with great dignity. Freddy knew how to lead a group of veterans and get the best out of them. He united the group and achieved the objective. Ternero deserves recognition for what he did," he said.
"This disease is a constant struggle. I just celebrated five months since my surgery. It is important to have family by your side and your spirits high. You can't fall because cancer can cut your life short at any moment. I am still fighting," said a moved Bazalar, who is recovering from stomach cancer.
