- Hello, Alessandro Morán. We just found out about the death of Freddy Ternero. It is a great loss. What memories do you have of the professor in that Copa and Recopa Sudamericana?
- What? I only knew that he was ill. Today I talked, via Whatsapp, with all the champions of the Recopa Sudamericana with Cienciano and we agreed to visit him tomorrow at the clinic. But this news takes me by surprise [silence...]
This was the first contact that El Comercio had with Alessandro Morán, champion with Cienciano in the Copa Sudamericana 2003 and the Recopa 2004. Remembered for being one of the stars of that memorable campaign of the Cusco team, which made history in Peruvian football.
How will you remember Professor Freddy Ternero?
He was a great example for all of us. We lost a great father. I played in the youth team of Universitario, which he coached. I remember he always advised me, after practices. The truth is that it is sad to remember all this, because he is one of the most important coaches in Peru.
You were seen a lot with him in his political career
I had the opportunity to go to several inaugurations of sports fields that he held in San Martín de Porres. He was the main promoter of sports in that district.
When was your last contact with Ternero?
One year ago. We met in Lima for a meeting of the champions of the Recopa Sudamericana. He didn't even show any signs of being in poor health. He was a quite strong person.
Will this event change your teammates' plans to travel to Lima?
Of course not. Now we have to accompany the family and give them all our support. I can't believe this is happening.
Most of us had the privilege of learning from him and then becoming champions in Cienciano.
What is the most remembered anecdote?
He always gave me the toughest task: marking players like Carlos Tévez, Maxi López, 'muñeco' Gallardo, Robinho, among others. I was always the closest to him and he had a lot of trust in me. In fact, during that campaign, we used to meet at his apartment to watch videos of the opponents.
