The exhibition match that Italian Andrea Pirlo was scheduled to play in Lima on Saturday was canceled today after Peruvian authorities disabled one of the stands at the Monumental Stadium of Universitario de Deportes. Check out the memes for this news.
The administration of Universitario de Deportes stated in a statement that the organizing company of the match communicated "that the mentioned show has been canceled due to last minute unforeseen events."
"The promoter of the match states that the disabling of the north stand has conspired against the realization of the match, and that is why they explain the lack of payment agreed upon with our club," explained.
The directive of U clarified that their team was going to be part of the show "as a participant and not as an organizer," so they rejected any responsibility regarding what happened.
According to what was announced in recent weeks by the organizers, Andrea Pirlo was going to play with the Universitario shirt in a friendly match against Deportivo Municipal.
The head of the Special Authorizations and Guarantees Department of the General Directorate of Interior Government, Flor Carranza, announced this Thursday on the RPP Noticias station that the authorities had decided to prohibit the use of the north stand of the Monumental Stadium, where the most radical bar of the popular Peruvian team is located.
She indicated that this measure was taken in retaliation for the violent clashes that groups of U and Sporting Cristal supporters staged two weeks ago outside the Monumental Stadium.
The measure also affects Sporting Cristal, which has already announced that it will not use the north stand of the National Stadium in the match for the title of the Summer Tournament that it will play this Saturday against Sport Huancayo.
