A total of 437 athletes will defend Peru's colors in the XI Cochabamba 2018 South American Sports Games to be held between May 26th and June 8th, officially confirmed by the Peruvian Olympic Committee after completing the nominal registration process for all of them.
This group becomes the largest sports delegation sent to a South American Games.
The quantity was officialized by the Technical Secretariat of the COP and endorsed by the entity's president, Dr. Pedro Del Rosario, and the Head of Mission in these games, Jenny Martínez.
Peru will compete in 33 different disciplines, including women's futsal and skating, both participating for the first time in a multi-sport South American event. The delegation - which will leave on the 20th of this month - is made up of 239 male athletes and 198 females.
SPORTS
Water sports will gather the largest group with a total of 50 athletes registered in the specialties of swimming, synchronized swimming, diving, water polo and open water swimming.
With them, athletics (30 athletes), badminton (8), basketball (12), handball (32), bowling (4), boxing (9), cycling (18), fencing (12), water skiing (7), futsal (28), gymnastics (15), golf (3), hockey (32), judo (10), karate (12), weightlifting (10), wrestling (13) and skating (5) were registered. Also Basque pelota (9), modern pentathlon (6), racquetball (3), rowing (13), rugby (12), squash (8), taekwondo (6), tennis (6), table tennis (6), archery (6), shooting (16), triathlon (2), sailing (6) and volleyball (28).
Equestrian, which was initially registered, will not be able to participate because the competition in Cochabamba 2018 was canceled due to the venue not being ready.
FLAGBEARER AND FAREWELL
The Peruvian Olympic Committee will bid farewell to the delegation in a special ceremony to be held on Saturday, the 19th of this month at its main headquarters. There, uniforms will be handed out and it will be revealed who will be the athlete who will carry it on May 26th during the opening ceremony of the games. The meeting will take place at 10 in the morning.
