Formula 1 Race in Miami Could Start in October 2019

The possibility of hosting a Formula 1 race in Miami starting from October 2019 has gained momentum after the local administration included the project discussion in a decisive meeting to be held next week.

The CEO of F1, Sean Bratches, applauded the 'City of the Sun' administration, led by Mayor Francis Suarez, for including the vote on their May 10th agenda, which could determine the urban race until 2028.

"We appreciate the interest of the community in hosting an F1 race and we look forward to working with local authorities and stakeholders to bring this idea to life," Bratches said in a statement.

According to the director, F1, with "over 500 million fans worldwide," would have in Miami "a perfect destination, being one of the most glamorous and iconic cities on the planet."

Meanwhile, Stephen Ross, the businessman and owner of the NFL's Miami Dolphins, supported the initiative and considered both Miami and F1 to be "a first-class city and event respectively."

"In cooperation with the city of Miami and Miami-Dade County, I am confident that we can deliver another global event that will be a destination for people from all over the world and drive economic value in South Florida," Ross stated.

Since 2016, Liberty Media, the American owner of F1, has expressed its intention to expand the race's presence in the United States, where an annual prize is already held in Austin, Texas.
