The Uruguayan forward Sebastián Abreu risks being suspended for up to ten games after throwing a table at his club's fans who insulted him at the end of a match. The incident was shared on Facebook and has already gone viral on social media.
According to the National Professional Football Association (ANFP), the referee's report regarding the incident concludes that Abreu argued with fans in the stands and then lifted a table and threw it towards them. The incident occurred after the match ended in a draw.
According to Article 63 of the ANFP's Code of Penalties, causing damage to a material object in the stadium during a match results in a suspension of one to six games.
However, subsection C of the same article states that attempting to physically assault someone within the stadium during a match can result in a suspension of five to ten games.
Abreu justified his actions by stating that he was provoked by derogatory remarks about his personal life. He clarified that the table was not aimed at anyone and was not intended to cause harm. He emphasized the importance of considering the motivations behind such reactions and urged others to hold the responsible party accountable as well.
