In the second half, at the 52nd minute, José Ignacio Rivero scored the equalizer with an impressive free-kick shot.
Monterrey and Tijuana will play the second leg of the quarterfinals on Saturday at 9 p.m.

Monterrey will visit Tijuana on Wednesday (9:30 p.m. LIVE ONLINE on Univision Deportes Network) at the Estadio Caliente for the first leg of the quarterfinals in the Mexican League Clausura.
Monterrey will look to confirm their favoritism in the series against Tijuana. The Rayados finished the season with a six-game unbeaten streak and ended in third place.
Tijuana, the sixth seed, hopes to take advantage of the home leg, where they achieved six of their seven victories this season.
Tijuana goes into the first leg against Monterrey with confidence after defeating league leaders Toluca in the last match of the regular season. The Xolos secured a 1-0 victory at home.
Meanwhile, Monterrey qualified in third place for the quarterfinals of the Mexican League Clausura after drawing 2-2 against Tigres as visitors.
