Pablo Bengoechea is losing, at an accelerated pace, his credit with the Alianza Lima fans (perhaps also with the executives?). More and more fans are calling for his departure from the team, but the Uruguayan coach, who faced the defeat against San Martín, asked them to be grateful to the players who gave him a title last year.
"The fans can do whatever they want. It's their right. They pay their ticket to see their team win. Unfortunately, we couldn't give them a victory. But, hey, this squad is the defending champion. We must be grateful in life", said Bengoechea.
He sees himself as the champion in December
The Uruguayan coach trusts that the poor campaign made by the team in the Torneo de Verano (they finished fifth, 14 points behind the leader Cristal) can be reversed in the Apertura and Clausura. He warned that no one should be surprised if they see them celebrating in December for a new title.
"It's April. Last year you (journalists) asked me the same questions. In December, Alianza celebrated. Let's see who celebrates in December. We have a lot of confidence in our squad," he said.
