Long weekend at Las Américas Racecourse

Two long race days with 12 races per day were held on Saturday, April 21 and Sunday, April 22, 2018 at the Las Américas Racecourse to define the ten light two-year-old participants born in Mexico who will compete in the millionaire Futurity México on May 13. 212 horses were registered, but only the five fastest horses per day were entitled to claim a ticket.

In the afternoon of Saturday, in the eighth elimination heat of the first 12 races, the filly Proud Freeda from El Mastha Stable stood out. The daughter of Fearless Fritz out of Proud Corrina by Fearless Freda started from the outside of the starting gate to showcase her speed without hesitation.

Bred in Mexico by Dr. Rachuán Suárez, the athlete saddled by Oscar Romo and ridden by jockey Eddi Cuéllar clocked 13.153 seconds to complete the 250 yards, 228.60 meters, to achieve the best time of the day.

On the other hand, As Macho from Falcón Stable practically flew in the second elimination heat on Sunday, without any opponent, and timed an enviable time of 13.094 seconds over the designated distance. The chestnut colt was guided by jockey José Ángel Ambrosio to become the fastest of the day, qualify in first place, and be one of the rivals to beat in the grand final. The two-year-old is a son of California Cartel out of Call Me The Breez by Corona Cartel, bred in Mexico by Arturo A Siller Berain and saddled by Rafael Alejandro Contreras.

The Final of the Futurity México will take place on May 13, 2018, and will have a purse of over 3,800,000 pesos to be distributed among the participants.
