Argentine Javier Saviola, with a past at Barcelona, Real Madrid, Sevilla, and River Plate, among others, has won the Andorra futsal league title with Sideco FC Encamp.

Saviola, 36 years old and who ended his professional career in 2015, lives in the Principality with his family and has been part of the Encamp team in the final stretch of an amateur championship that the champions of this season have dominated for years. It has been the club's ninth consecutive title.

The Argentine footballer, who did not play in the first game of the final against SAE Sant Julià -Encamp won in a penalty shootout- had a leading role in the last match. He scored the first goal for his team, and one of the penalties in the shootout that decided the match, which ended in a 4-4 tie.

After the match, the Argentine said he was happy to have won the final but that the credit goes to his teammates, who have been fighting all season. "What I did was a simple collaboration, but I'm happy to see them happy," he said.

Saviola is currently training to become a coach and works with the Andorran federation in the lower categories of football in the Principality.

Despite never having played futsal, he decided to accept the proposal from Encamp encouraged by his teammates, and to continue playing sports outside of professionalism.
