The French National Soccer Team’s anthem doesn’t motivate Benzema

The national anthem is perhaps the most important patriotic symbol before a soccer match. Singing the notes at the top of your lungs makes your body tingle and fills you with motivation to represent your country. Karim Benzema doesn't feel the same way.

The striker has been absent from any matches with the French National Team for a long time, especially after the infamous 'sexgate' scandal with his former teammate Valbuena. In an interview with 'Vanity Fairt', he revealed details about it.

"If we listen carefully, La Marseillaise calls for war. I don't like that at all," explained Karim.

"When a prime minister talks about you, it's no longer about soccer. I don't think soccer and politics should be mixed. In my case, it's a political matter. Me? Now? Nothing. I'm already 30 years old, with two children. I'm calm here. If they need me, they know where I am," he said after facing strong criticism every day.

"I haven't spoken to the coach (Didier Deschamps) in a long time. Without exchanging a word, it's very difficult," and he assured that he wouldn't do anything to change the coach's opinion.
