Sevilla's Winter Market: A Failed Revolution

Last winter market arrived in Seville like a window of possibilities. Before the end of December, the club decided to do without the services of Eduardo Berizzo and turn the tide of a team that showed no signs of having its own identity on the field, choosing to place Vincenzo Montella at the helm of the project just a month after he was dismissed from AC Milan.

The Italian was not the only boost the team wanted to give to the squad. January offered a wide range of players who could join the city of Nervión, with a total of 4 chosen names. Two defenders, a midfielder, and a forward; Guilherme Arana, Miguel Layún, Roque Mesa, and Sandro Ramírez. Initially, the latter three had a high reputation and were expected to become the revolution the team needed.

Now, in the month of March, the prestigious reinforcements undertaken by Óscar Arias have delivered vague responses. In fact, the only one with a fixed role is Miguel Layún, although his performance is not the same as in the past. However, he has shown to have a greater impact than the rest of the signings, whose performances do not reach the expected level.

A Failure of Names

The bet on Sandro Ramírez has turned into a total fiasco. With 176 minutes played and zero goals scored, Montella considers him the last option for the attack, preferring by far the performances of Wissam Ben Yedder and Luis Muriel. In the case of Roque Mesa, the situation is even worse, having played only 67 minutes in the Seville shirt and drawing attention to the Italian coach's response by leaving him out of the squad on numerous occasions.

For the midfielder, the reality has been unbearable. Having disappeared at Swansea, he cannot find his place in Seville, where even Guilherme Arana, the least renowned signing whose adaptation is still in its early stages, has had more playing time than him.

The revolution that Seville fans were eagerly waiting for has turned into a deep disappointment that has not found its vindication on the field, resulting in the team's structure remaining the same and the only positive change being the reintegration of the essential Steven N'Zonzi in midfield. A total failure of the sports management team that has seen in the last market the second blow to its management.
