Gennady Golovkin
is not at all happy with his next opponent, Mexican Saúl 'Canelo' Álvarez, who tested positive a month ago. Despite the Mexican's team claiming it was due to contamination, the Kazakh has doubts.
"I've told them, it's not Mexican beef. It's 'Canelo'. It's his team. These are his promoters. ... 'Canelo' is cheating. They take these drugs, and everyone acts like nothing happened," said a very upset Golovkin at a recent press conference.
According to the boxer, this case shows corruption in boxing. He doesn't believe 'Canelo' when he attributed the result of his test to contaminated meat.
Golovkin (37-0-1, 33 knockouts) openly criticized Álvarez (49-1-2, 34 knockouts) before a training session at his camp in the mountains of Southern California. For the first time, the undefeated middleweight from Kazakhstan repeatedly pointed out that he is convinced Álvarez consumed banned substances in previous fights, including their first one in September.
"It was very obvious with all those muscles (Álvarez enlarged) ... and with the traces of the injections, which were visible. I can also talk about Oscar De La Hoya. He's not clean either. He's dirty," he concluded.
The rematch will take place on May 5th in Las Vegas.
