Fiscalia de Madrid requests five years in prison for former footballer Xabi Alonso for defrauding two million euros during the fiscal years of 2010, 2011, and 2012.

The Economic Crimes section of the Provincial Prosecutor's Office of Madrid accuses Alonso of three tax offenses committed during his time playing for Real Madrid, according to the Public Ministry.

The Prosecutor's Office requests the same sentence for tax advisor Ivan Zaldúa and for the administrator of the company Kardazli Comercio Serviços de Consultoría e Investimentos LDA, Ignasi Maestre.

It requests that each of the accused be fined 4 million euros and, as civil liability, jointly and severally pay 2,032,845 euros to the Tax Agency, as this was the allegedly defrauded amount plus interest.

The Prosecutor's Office denounced Alonso in 2016 after investigating a complaint from the Tax Agency. It did so by order of the Attorney General's Office following an initial report in which it requested the closure of the proceedings.

The Madrid Instruction Court number 40 decided to close the case, but last January the Madrid Court of Appeals ordered its reopening to determine whether the player's image rights contracts were simulated or not for tax purposes.

Now, the Prosecutor's Office has released its provisional indictment in which it states that in mid-2009 the three accused reached an agreement to arrange an "apparent" transfer of Alonso's image rights "with the intention that he obtain an illicit tax benefit."

The prosecutor requests that they be sentenced to two years in prison for the tax offense of 2010, one year for the offense of 2011 (of lesser amount), and two more years for the offense of 2012.
