No rest. After starting the year successfully, achieving the bronze medal at the Guadalajara Half Marathon and the silver medal at the Miami Half Marathon, Inés Melchor is training with the aim of participating in the Half Marathon World Championship in Valencia, Spain, this Saturday 24.

"At this time of year it is very cold and there are days when it rains all day; however, thanks to God and being from Huancayo, where the climate is similar, I have been working well so far under the supervision of my coach and getting used to the time change, already in this last week of training," Melchor said.

For the Peruvian athlete, who is training at the High Performance Center in Madrid, along with her coach Dong Liu, she pointed out that the results in the first months of the year make her feel very happy and confident as they demonstrate that she is physically fit, but there are still things to improve.

"My goal as an athlete is to improve my personal best time, which is now 12 minutes. I would like to run under 1 hour 10 minutes, I hope I can achieve it. With Liu, we have a very good relationship; she helps me a lot to improve physically and mentally, which is very important, and every day as an athlete you learn new things. Each coach has different training tactics," Inés Melchor emphasized.

Regarding her teammates like Gladys Tejeda and Luz Mery Rojas, she said that on Thursday the 22nd, when they arrive in Europe, they will talk to define the strategy of how to face the race.

After this competition, Inés is focused on the Odesur Games. "I am going to seek the qualifying time in the 5,000 and 10,000 meters for the Odesur Games, which will be held in Bolivia, and in that competition my goal is to win. At the end of the year I am going to run a marathon seeking the qualifying time for the 2019 Pan American Games," she concluded.

The Fact
The World Half Marathon Championship in Valencia is a flat competition which demands more speed from the runners.
