Uber launches its autonomous truck transport system
It has gone a bit unnoticed, but Uber launched in May 2007 its system to connect logistics companies' owners and anyone who needs to transport cargo, with their autonomous trucks.
Through the specialized application Uber Freight, the well-known platform for booking cars has already demonstrated that it can cover a 200 km trip without having accidents, transporting 2,000 boxes of beer.
Now, Uber has shown a little more of the autonomous pick-up and delivery process for trailers, the same process that it already performs on the roads of Arizona.
After the customer requests the pick-up of their merchandise, a vehicle sets off to meet them at authorized points for this procedure, where the operator is in charge of hitching and/or uncoupling the trailer carrying the cargo.
For now, the operators monitor the entire route of the units, intervening only when the vehicles leave the highway or need to park.
