Gustavo Morínigo, general coordinator of the youth selections, announced this Monday the list of players called up for the U-21 Albirroja, which will compete in an international quadrangular next week.
The Paraguayan U-21 national team will play a friendly quadrangular with the teams from Chile, Japan, and Venezuela, with an eye on the 2020 Olympic Games. Gustavo Morínigo is shaping the core of that team, which will surely be the foundation of the senior Albirroja.
The Albirroja coach called up 22 players, almost all from the First Division, many of them even stars abroad, such as Salcedo and Alderete.
The players called up by Morínigo are:
Goalkeepers: Santiago Rojas (Nacional) and Marino Arzamendia (Santaní/Olimpia).
Defenders: Fabián Franco (Cerro), Saúl Salcedo (Huracán/Olimpia), José Cañete (Capiatá/Olimpia) Alexis Fernández (Olimpia), Omar Alderete (Cerro/Gimnasia), Robert Rojas (Guaraní), Miguel Benítez (Guaraní), and Jorge Cáceres (Lanús).
Midfielders: Jorge Morel (Guaraní), Braian Ojeda (Olimpia), Matías Espinoza (General Díaz/Olimpia), Blas Armoa (Luqueño), Alan Rodríguez (Cerro Porteño), Tomás Rojas (Sol de América), Julio Báez (Cerro Porteño), and Rodrigo Bogarín (Guaraní)
Forwards: Antonio Marín (Guaraní), Sebastián Ferreira (Independiente/Olimpia), and Pedro Báez (Cerro Porteño).
The quadrangular will be held between March 21st and 25th at the Defensores del Chaco stadium. The schedule is as follows:
