Porto suffers unexpected defeat in Portugal

The Porto team suffered an unexpected and painful 0-1 defeat in their visit to Paços de Ferreira on Sunday, in a match of the 26th round of the First Division of Portuguese Football.

The only goal of the match was scored by Miguel Vieira in the 34th minute, while Frenchman Yacine Brahimi missed a penalty kick in the 68th minute for the visiting team.

With this result, the "Dragons" remained in the first place of the table with 67 points, while Paços earned 24 points to move out of the relegation zone.

Only Jesus Manuel Corona from the Mexican legion saw action in this match and was substituted in the 76th minute, while Diego Reyes remained on the bench and Hector Herrera was not considered.

The team led by Sérgio Conceição showed a level far from their best, with many problems in keeping possession of the ball and creating danger up front.

On the other hand, the home team was not brilliant either, but they showed great determination and that was enough to break the deadlock in the 34th minute.

It all started with a rebound that fell to Filipe Ferreira, who sent a cross to the near post from the left, where Miguel Vieira connected first time to beat Spanish goalkeeper Iker Casillas.

With more determination than good football, the visiting team pushed forward in search of the equalizer and came close to achieving it through a penalty kick, after a foul on Felipe. However, Frenchman Yacine Brahimi executed it poorly, allowing goalkeeper Mário Felgueiras to dive to his right and prevent a goal in the 68th minute.

Porto never gave up, but lacked the football to deserve the equalizer. As a result, they suffered their first defeat of the season, although they still remain in the lead, complicating their chances of winning the title.

The refereeing was in charge of Bruno Paixao, who booked Luiz Phellype (72), António Xavier (85), Mário Felgueiras (92), and Filipe Ferreira (96) for the home team, while Sérgio Oliveira (73) and Otavinho da Silva (80) received yellow cards for the visitors.
