Julian Draxler criticizes Unai Emery's game plan after PSG's defeat against Real Madrid
After losing 2-1 to Real Madrid in the second leg of the Champions League round of 16, Julian Draxler had controversial words about the game plan set by his coach Unai Emery. "We should have pressed them when we were down 3-1 in the first leg. We shouldn't have passed the ball from one side to the other waiting for a goal," said the PSG attacking midfielder.
In response to this, PSG spoke with Julian Draxler about his comments. The club's management was not pleased at all and met with him to ask for an explanation. It wasn't the right time, they pointed out.
"Antero Henrique (sporting director) spoke with Draxler. He didn't mean to say that. With my experience, I know that in a moment like that, it's better not to speak. After a match like that, with a hot head, you can say many things," Emery said in a press conference on Friday.
He also mentioned that "perhaps his words could have been misinterpreted and that he believes him". The truth is that PSG is out of the Champions League, while Real Madrid continues in the competition and only has to wait until next Friday, the date of the draw for the next round.
For now, PSG's focus is on their match against Metz, their opponent in a new Ligue 1 match. With Edinson Cavani and Kylian Mbappé in the attack, they hope to achieve a good result that will extend their lead as the undisputed leaders of the French first division.
