Orlando Cepeda, one of four Puerto Ricans inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame, was hospitalized in California.
Staci Slaughter, spokesperson for the San Francisco Giants, confirmed on Tuesday that Cepeda was hospitalized on Monday night, although she did not have more details about his condition.
Cepeda, 80, played 17 seasons in Major League Baseball, most of them with the Giants.
Selected seven times to the All-Star Game, "Peruchín" Cepeda won the National League Rookie of the Year award in 1958 and was the National League Most Valuable Player in 1967 with the St. Louis Cardinals. He retired with a batting average of .297, 397 home runs, and 1,365 runs batted in.
