Peruvian National Team: the conversation between Cubillas and Uribe just after Peru qualified for Spain 82 [AUDIO] [VIDEO]

Martes 13 de Febrero del 2018

On International Radio Day, we remember an unmissable dialogue between the players of the Peruvian National Team.

The Peruvian National Team qualified for the 1982 World Cup after playing only four matches. In their debut against Colombia in Bogota, they drew 1-1. Teofilo Cubillas played the full 90 minutes that day and missed a penalty. He later revealed that he did not have permission from his club, Fort Lauderdale Strikers of the United States, and missed the rest of the process.

Finally, in September 1981, the team secured first place and the ticket to the World Cup after drawing 0-0 against Uruguay in Lima (the groups only had three teams and the format was home and away).

And in the midst of all the celebration for the achievement, Julio Cesar Uribe, who took the lead in the qualification of the Peruvian National Team, had a radio phone call with 'Nene' Cubillas, thanks to journalist Pocho Rospigliosi. We remember the unforgettable dialogue on World Radio Day.

Cubillas: Julio Cesar, you can't imagine the happiness that must be reigning in the Peruvian locker room. A few moments ago, my wife called me at the hotel where I am concentrated to give me the good news.

Julio Cesar: Teofilo, I am very happy to be able to talk to you after obtaining the qualification. I hope that for Spain 82 you can rejoin the group and we can show our football in Spain.

Cubillas: I want you to congratulate all the guys for me.

Julio Cesar: Happy to talk to you. May you continue to succeed and continue to represent the name of Peru with pride.

But reading is not enough. Don't miss the emotional conversation between the former players of the Peruvian National Team in the audio that accompanies the article.
