Canada wins its first gold medal in the Winter Olympics in Pyeongchang
The Canadian team of figure skating secured the gold medal in the competition held at the Gangneung Ice Arena. They accumulated 73 points, ahead of the team of Olympic athletes from Russia with 66 points. The bronze medal went to the United States with 62 points.
The team competition consists of four disciplines: men's individual, women's individual, pairs, and ice dance. The combined scores from each discipline determine the final score for each team.
With today's victory, the Canadian team avenged their second-place finish in Sochi 2014, where they were behind the host country.
