UPDATE NO. 4 (3:35 p.m. ET): Phil Mickelson has tied the lead again! Birdies at Nos. 3 and 6 (he started his round at No. 10) at Monterey have him 9 under and sharing T-1 with Dustin Johnson, Beau Hossler, Troy Merritt, Julian Suri and Kevin Streelman.
Jordan Spieth is 5 under through eight at Monterey to rocket 75 spots to T-23 at 5 under overall.
UPDATE NO. 3 (1:45 p.m. ET): Phil Mickelson was tied for the lead at 7 under at one point, but the lead has moved up. Still, he opens in 4-under 33 at Monterey Peninsula and is 7 under and two back with his final nine to play in Round 2.
Jonathan Randolph is the leader at 9 under after six birdies in his first seven holes at Monterey.
UPDATE NO. 2 (12:55 p.m. ET): Aaron Wise birdies No. 1 at Pebble to join the leader brigade at 7 under. We now have a six-way tie for first!
UPDATE NO. 1 (12:35 p.m. ET): Patrick Cantlay, Will Zalatoris, Beau Hossler, Kevin Streelman and Troy Merritt are all tied for the lead at 7 under.
