The Spanish model Marga Bernalte, who has worked as a grid girl in Formula 1 in countries like Portugal and United Arab Emirates, considered the decision of Liberty Media company to not hire more girls to pose on the starting grid of races as sexist.
In an interview with the Spanish media interviu.es, Bernalte, who was Miss Barcelona, assured that she has never considered herself a sexual object and that anyone who considers her and her colleagues "mere decorative objects" in their job, "has a serious problem of open-mindedness and education".

"We are all prepared and we know languages", she said in the interview and assured that this type of decisions only serve to "get an easy applause from a few, without seeking solutions to the real discrimination that women suffer".
The 27-year-old woman stated that women should be allowed to "freely choose and let us do it without anyone prohibiting us and much less under the shield of a false machismo; they are the real macho ones".
Yesterday, Liberty Media company, the new owner of Formula 1, announced in a statement that starting this year they would no longer hire grid girls, and they would be replaced with shows and hiring celebrities.
