Sport Ancash requested to be granted promotion to the First Division due to the alleged improper registration of the players Jefferson Collazos and Daniel Martín. Both players played for Cantolao, the team that prevented Ancash from ascending in the extra final they played in 2016.
In 2017, Ancash returned to compete in the Second Division and finished in last place, so they will have to return to the Copa Peru in order to try to reach the First Division of Peruvian football.
