Rally Dakar 2018
The Rally Dakar 2018 suffered another setback in the car category. Bryce Menzies, who destroyed his vehicle while starting the second stage in the dunes of Pisco. The pilot only managed to cover six kilometers of the 267 timed.
Menzies did not notice a cut in the dune and overturned his vehicle to the point of rendering it useless. The American was profiled as one of the candidates, as he had finished fourth in the first stage, just seconds behind Qatari Nasser Al-Attiyah.
Although the accident was severe, Menzies and his co-pilot emerged unscathed. However, they had to say goodbye to the most extreme rally once again, as they were unable to complete the race in the previous edition.
This is because the American had an accident while jumping with his car from a height of 115 meters, lost control and fractured his shoulder. Another drop in this Dakar was that of Jad Comair, a Lebanese who also overturned his car on the first day of competition.
It is worth noting that incidents also occurred in the motorcycle category. In the first stage, German Juergen Droessiger collided with a truck when heading to the first special. Similarly, Portuguese Joaquim Rodrigues suffered a shocking fall, which left him with a fractured fifth vertebra.
