The future of Diego Godín is currently up in the air. The Uruguayan centre-back, one of the most reliable in La Liga and a key component in Simeone’s squad, could be wooed by Manchester City and Manuel Pellegrini, who is keen to work with the defender again. According to sources close to Atlético, the player’s agent, Paco Casal, has long been circulating Godín's name around the City offices, but neither Txiki Begiristain nor Ferran Soriano have ever officially approached Los Rojiblancos.
After numerous attempts to bolster the City rearguard, Pellegrini knows what he wants and is looking for a proven defender with European pedigree that is able to lead from the back. Godín would fit the bill and in Manchester they are well aware of it. Nevertheless, it remains to be seen whether Atlético will be willing to part with one of their star players.
