Forty people were injured on Friday by the fall of a barrier at the Kuwait City stadium, at the end of the Gulf Cup Nations football final, which pitted Oman against the United Arab Emirates, announced a Kuwaiti minister.
In a statement published on the Twitter account of the Kuwaiti Football Federation, the Minister of Youth, Khaled Al Roudhan, stated that "about 40 people" were injured and hospitalized with "minor injuries" and that the condition of all of them "is well".
The minister added that the Kuwaiti authorities were going to investigate the causes of the accident, adding that it was probably due to fans who put pressure on the barrier while congratulating their players.
Initially, the organization of the competition, contacted by AFP, spoke of "eleven injured".
An AFP photographer, present at the scene, explained that the injured fans fell after pushing a barrier that separated them from the players and that broke due to the pressure.
