Paolo Guerrero couldn't win the "King of America" award given by "El País" from Uruguay. The Peruvian striker was surpassed by the Brazilian Luan, attacker of Gremio.
The captain of the Peruvian national team came in second place, far behind the Brazilian forward, in a vote by journalists from South America and Mexico.
Paolo Guerrero had to settle for being the people's champion. In the readers' poll, the Peruvian was chosen with a wide margin. The forward had 54.82% of the preferences, while Luan had 29.52%.
Guerrero and Luan fought until the last day of the vote for what they did in the World Cup Qualifiers and Copa Libertadores, respectively.
