Mayor of Jerez de la Frontera guarantees the celebration of the Motorcycle Grand Prix

Mayor Mamen Sánchez from Jerez de la Frontera (Cádiz) has guaranteed the celebration of the Spanish Motorcycle Grand Prix for the next three years, as well as the celebration of the World Superbike Championship race.

In this regard, as indicated in a statement, she has clarified that they are "in negotiations to change" this last race "since September is not the best month to attract the public, which caused significant losses last year that have put Cirjesa in a state of dissolution."

The mayor has assured that the PP "knew the situation of Cirjesa and the circuit and hid it from both the federation and this municipal government and the people of Jerez". "This government is completely transparent and we are going to tell the truth to the people of Jerez about the current situation of the circuit and the negotiations that are taking place," she warned.

Thus, she stressed that they are "working to save all the events" that they consider "important and profitable for the city". In this regard, she stated that "the Regional Government has already guaranteed the celebration of the Motorcycle Grand Prix and the City Council believes that it is the major event that should take place in the city", so she pointed out that they are working to "find a solution" for the Superbike race.

"If we focus on the celebration of the Grand Prix and the Superbike throughout the year, Jerez could have a great motorcycle project. Despite the criticism and lies, this government will communicate the agreements when the negotiations are finalized," the mayor assured, adding that they want to "reassure the people of Jerez" because they are working to save the Superbike event "and try to celebrate it on other dates in the coming years, because September is not the most suitable month, as demonstrated last year with a deficit that exceeded 800,000 euros."

Regarding the World Capital of Motorcycling, Sánchez stated that they are "in negotiations with the federation for other events that will also take place from November" and she assured that "there is no signed document, only the celebration of a series of events around the Capital and a series of tax reductions for sponsors".

Finally, the mayor has also stated that "the situation of Cirjesa as of December 31, 2014 was that it was in a state of dissolution due to the deficit of the Superbike Championship celebration." In this regard, she added that Cirjesa "is under the control of the Ministry of Finance, which asks us to make a Rationalization Plan to avoid that dissolution," which "will be done to prevent its dissolution."
