Rafael Van der Vaart suffered a grade 2/3 ankle sprain in training according to a communiqué from the Real Betis medical team. In a period of approximately ten days, the medical staff will carry out another scan to determine the evolution of the injury and it’s hoped that in a period of 3 weeks, the Dutch international can return to first team training.
It’s doubtful if the player will be ready for the opening week of the season as Betis face Villarreal at home. There is a lingering doubt as if Van der Vaart will even be fit for the following weeks La Liga game when Betis play Real Madrid at the Bernabeu. A game that would have marked a return to his former team.
