Marcelo Bielsa arrived in Mexico in June 1992 for the Atlas team under the recommendation of Cesar Luis Menotti.

The Argentine coach impressed Mexican officials with his concepts and long-term project search. Bielsa would later join Club America to take charge of the first team and develop players from the youth academy.

One of the players promoted to the first team was German Villa, a strong-willed player who quickly earned a spot in Marcelo Bielsa's starting lineup.

German Villa spoke with AS Mexico about Bielsa's concepts and personality, describing him as a dedicated and disciplined coach.

"I remember Marcelo Bielsa with great gratitude. He is a hundred percent professional, studious, dedicated, obsessive; that is comforting because at the end of the day, you learn to have discipline on and off the field."

"Marcelo likes to work from individual to collective, ensuring you do your job well first and then help the team. That's what Bielsa values a lot."

"Bielsa's concepts are to be mentally strong and resilient, he teaches you how to behave, how to mature. These things are appreciated in the long run," said the former Club America player.

Regarding Bielsa's approach and management within the dressing room, German Villa pointed out: "He always likes good vibes, there must be a connection. There are many tactical instructions before a match, he rarely asks for opinions after a match, he has everything under control. The instructions are tough and strict to make you understand that you have to do things well."

"He really enjoys victories, he doesn't like to lose, he is a winner, defeats destroy him and he finds it hard to accept them."

When asked if Bielsa is the right coach to take over the Mexican National Team, German Villa expressed: "I don't know if he is the ideal coach, but what I'm sure of is that if the Mexican Federation manages to hire Bielsa, the national team players will have a lot of work, they will learn a lot but at the same time they can get mentally tired."

"He is an excellent coach and I would love for him to be the coach of the Mexican National Team."
