From Jeers to Ovation
Antonio Donnarumma, brother of Gianluigi, stepped onto the field on Wednesday as an emergency replacement after Storari got injured during warm-up. Many fans booed him every time he touched the ball, but in the end, he became the hero of Milan's qualification to the semi-final of the Italian Cup after defeating Inter.
A Difficult Debut
Antonio Donnarumma joined Milan due to the renewal of his brother Gianluigi and has been surrounded by controversy and heavily criticized by the fans since the beginning. And his debut could not have been more complicated. His brother, let's remember, has a groin injury, and his usual substitute, Marco Storari, felt it during warm-up.
The responsibility fell on Antonio, who despite the boos from his own team's fans, decided not to pay attention and respond on the field, and he did: he kept his goal clean for 120 minutes and had two brilliant interventions that were almost as valuable as Cutrone's goal.
A Joyful Victory
After the end of the match, no one celebrated the victory more than the Donnarummas. Gianluigi for the happiness of his older brother and Antonio because he was able to get rid of a heavy burden and prove that he can compete for the position.
"I have always trained well, I have always worked hard, working quietly. The work pays off and luckily it went well for me, I couldn't have had a better debut. Better than this is impossible, today we were a team and the group is strong," said the Milan hero at the end of the match.
