Aída Román already has all the medals that can be achieved in each of the international competitions, such as the silver in London 2012, the gold in the indoor World Championships in Nimes 2014 and the silver in the CDMX World Championships 2017, to mention a few, but the archer still wants to continue making history in this sport she loves.
"There are moments when breaks must be taken for some reasons, but when I return to training it brings me a lot of joy and I really enjoy it, so I try to set personal goals, that is, if I couldn't achieve something in a competition, I have to accomplish it in the next one and learn from my mistakes. My challenge is to try to improve my records, to continue making history for my country, for me it's something that can motivate me," said Román.
This year she made history for the country after winning the silver medal in the team event along with Mariana Avitia and Alejandra Valencia.
"I am satisfied with the result of the world medal this year, but one of my favorite stages is also the indoor season. I was very happy, it was a very good, fruitful and important year for me, a 2017 that gave me many lessons both positive and negative, and I am glad to have experienced them," she said.
However, this year she also had a bad moment with the earthquake that shook Mexico City on September 19th.
"These are seasons where one has to learn, overcome them, get rid of the fears because you think there will be another earthquake the next day, so I try to take it easy because I am aware that we are in an area with many earthquakes. For me, it was just seeing it as it is, no more no less, I know that many people lost their homes and it's a shame. Nature doesn't give you warnings and you have to adapt," she said.
Now Román's immediate challenge is to continue as part of the national team that will compete in the Central American and Caribbean Games in Barranquilla 2018.
"For 2018, I want to belong to the national team and continue making history for the country, it would be my third Central American Games where the objective is for Mexico to have the best performance," she said.
