GUADALAJARA -- Three weeks after winning the title of the Apertura 2017 in the Liga MX Femenil, Chivas visited Governor Jorge Aristoteles Sandoval Diaz at Casa Jalisco.
There, the team of Luis Fernando Camacho received recognition from the highest authority in the state. While the Chivas players gave him a shirt, Sandoval Diaz gave the captain Tania Morales a plaque.
The visit was attended by owner Jorge Vergara Madrigal, who addressed the players after they turned the overall score around to overcome the Tuzas from Pachuca in the final.
"Thanks to the girls, it was a great game they played. It was a great season. They went down 2-0, we won 3-0, obviously they were champions. Congratulations," said the owner of Grupo Omnilife-Chivas.
Meanwhile, Aristoteles mentioned that "they are idols for many. The first league, the first champions, in honor of equity, women's empowerment," to ensure that the Chivas players will be "the champions of women. They have come to stay."
Chivas Femenil will begin the defense of the title with a visit to Gallos Blancos from Queretaro in a match corresponding to matchday 1.
FORMULA TO AVOID "CAMPEONITIS"
Brenda Viramontes, forward of the champion team of the Liga Femenil, indicated that they have turned the page on November 24, the date on which they were crowned against the Tuzas from Pachuca.
"Closing the cycle, you start a new one, with a new mentality, it will help us a lot so that the same doesn't happen (as with the men's team)," she explained at Casa Jalisco.
The Tapatia clarified that "the rest was short, but I think that short rest helped us not to lose condition, we have closed the cycle, we are completely going to defend this championship, we are going for the bicampeonato."
Brenda stated that "we are already part of Mexican soccer, part of the history as women in the state and the country. It is indescribable, it changes your life a lot, people approach you a lot, you are already a figure who is an example for other girls, it is a very big responsibility, it changes your life, you have to be a very responsible person with what you do."
ARLETT TOVAR SUFFERED AN INJURY
Arlett Tovar, defender who scored two goals in the final, suffered a second-degree sprain during a training session in San Rafael, and she is currently undergoing rehabilitation.
According to sources close to the first team, the coaching staff remains confident that Arlett will be able to appear as a starter in the beginning of the tournament at Estadio Corregidora against Gallos Femenil.
Tovar was one of the most consistent players for Chivas, and she also scored eight goals between the regular season and the playoffs.
