Tigres champions of Mexican football
Tigres were crowned champions of Mexican football on Sunday night after defeating Monterrey 2-1 in the second leg of the Apertura-2017 final played at the Bancomer stadium.
Colombian Dorlan Pabón put 'Rayados' of Monterrey ahead in the 2nd minute. Chilean Eduardo Vargas, in the 31st minute, and Colombian Francisco Meza, in the 35th minute, scored the comeback for the Autonomous University of Nuevo León's felines, who won the series with an overall score of 3-2.
'Rayados' of Monterrey had the opportunity to tie the game and send it into extra time, but Colombian Avilés Hurtado missed a penalty.
Tigres thus achieved their sixth league title in the top division. They were previously crowned champions in the 1977-78, 1981-82, Apertura-2011, Apertura-2015, and Apertura-2016 seasons.
