Tragedy of the Fokker
Thirty years ago today, the Fokker F-27-400M, which was carrying one of the best generations of Alianza Lima (then in first place in the standings) and Peruvian soccer, crashed into the sea off the coast of Ventanilla. On December 8, 1987, tragedy struck the Fokker, the second tragedy to mourn national soccer.
The 'Potrillos' team
The 'Potrillos' team was returning from a 1-0 victory against Deportivo Pucallpa in the National Championship. Of the 43 people on board, only the pilot Edilberto Villar Molina survived. The news of the blanquiazul tragedy shook La Victoria, Peru, and the sporting world.

A halo of mystery surrounded this traumatic event, which undoubtedly affected the evolution of Peruvian soccer in the years to come. In 2006, the official report presented by the Peruvian Navy attributed the incident to a combination of technical and human failures.
