Zinedine Zidane supports the introduction of video assistant referee (VAR) in Spanish football

Zinedine Zidane, coach of Real Madrid, expressed his support for the introduction of video assistant referee (VAR) in Spanish football, following what happened in Mestalla with the disallowed goal of Leo Messi for Barcelona, although he assured that it will "take away spontaneity from football".

"Its introduction is planned and Spanish football decides when. We all know that technology changes and it will be a system to improve football, but we don't decide, Spanish football does," said Zidane in a press conference, who did not want to enter into controversies.

"I'm not going to get involved because what we always look for here is controversy and I don't want it, I'm interested in my team. There are many people whose job is to talk about that, it's not mine. As a coach, as a football person, as a fan, I want football to improve, undoubtedly, but the rest is not my business".

For Zidane, the introduction of VAR is necessary for the evolution of football, although he expressed his sentimental attachment to certain aspects that he believes will be lost.

"We will surely lose something. We will gain something on one hand, but we will lose it on other aspects of football. It's inevitable. It's true that we are moving towards something more technological and there will be fewer problems, hence the idea of implementing video assistant refereeing, but on the other hand, it will take away some of the spontaneity of football," he concluded.
