Miss Spain 2015: Carla Garcia

The Canarian doctor Carla Garcia has been chosen as Miss Spain 2015 in a gala held last night at Starlite de Marbella (Malaga) and will be our representative at the Miss Universe pageant.

The new beauty queen is 25 years old, measures 1.75 meters, has dark hair and elegant features, works as a doctor, speaks English and German, and was the girlfriend of Juventus player Alvaro Morata.

A total of 15 candidates between the ages of 18 and 26 attended the contest, which were chosen through an internal selection promoted by the official website and social media of the competition, where the public could choose the first finalists.

The participants paraded first in short golden dresses, then in bikinis to the beat of African rhythms, and finally in evening gowns.

The first runner-up was Raquel Bonilla, a 23-year-old from Seville, and the second runner-up was Sofia del Prado, a 20-year-old from Albacete.

The title of Miss Congeniality, chosen by the contestants themselves, went to Laura Gonce from Seville, and Miss Popular, based on votes collected on social media, went to Zaira Naranjo from Madrid.

The list of candidates had some interesting details, such as Carolina Trillo from Madrid being the daughter of Encarna Salazar from the duo Azucar Moreno, or Claudia Lloga being the only African-American candidate with a hearing disability, who had a sign language interpreter throughout the parade.

In addition, some of the contestants had interesting professions, including an architect, a teacher, and a aspiring national police officer.

The Spanish representative at Miss Universe 2014, Desire Cordero from Andalusia, who placed tenth in that competition, wore a spectacular red dress with a train and was in charge of crowning her successor.

Desire Cordero (also the ex-girlfriend of football player Alvaro Hierro, son of Fernando Hierro) advised Carla Garcia to "never change, to be herself," and encouraged her to face all the obstacles she encounters with "enthusiasm, attitude, and strength," and to pursue her dreams and goals.
