Pumas wins the championship in the Green Conference of Onefa

There was no three-peat. Pumas crowned the 90 years of American football at UNAM with a championship in the Green Conference of Onefa, after defeating UANL's Auténticos Tigres 18-15, in a game that was decided in the last seconds.

At the beginning, Pumas managed to contain the Tigres in three plays, forcing the team from the north to punt. But the defense blocked the ball and Gerardo Ramírez recovered it, putting his team in a good field position.

Daniel de Juambelz moved the chains to find Andrés Salgado in the end zone. The extra point was good and the capital team opened the scoring.

Although Tigres tried to respond with seven points by advancing dangerously into the red zone, the local defense managed to close the gaps and thanks to a sack by Marco Zúñiga, the UANL team was forced to bring in Ricardo Aguilar, who kicked a 40-yard field goal to bring his team closer (3-7).

In their next offensive series, UNAM came up empty-handed, but the Auténticos Tigres missed the opportunity and lost the ball to lineman Juan Espinosa.

The second quarter was tough for the home team. Coach Otto Becerril's team consumed half the period on offense, moved the chains, and had a touchdown called back due to a penalty, leaving Víctor Hernández wanting for more.

After this play, Enrique Zepeda took the ball away from Hernández himself and the Auténticos Tigres offense had another chance, but they couldn't score.

With two minutes left on the clock, Siliceo Reyes entered the field and kicked a 30-yard field goal to increase Pumas' lead (10-3).

Shortly before the end of the first half, Francisco Mata Charles attempted a long pass in search of the tie, but safety David Flores intercepted the throw and avoided any danger. Pumas went into halftime with the advantage.

In the third quarter, the defenses gradually wore down and started to close the gaps, as both teams came up empty on their first drives.

Coach Juan Antonio Zamora's pupils didn't lower the intensity and looked to score seven points, but Abraham Herrera and company managed to contain them inside the 5-yard line, allowing Aguilar to kick a field goal to make it 6-10.

The last quarter became the most intense of the whole game. Mata Charles threw short passes that gained good yards and the Tigres were once again in the red zone.

The UNAM defense managed to contain them at the 1-yard line. But the pressure from the Auténticos Tigres was too much, and Abraham Sosa carried the ball on fourth down to take the lead with 13 minutes on the clock (13-10).

De Juambelz led a very intense offensive series where he even had to get rid of two defenders to find Salgado and throw a pass that brought them into enemy territory. But Víctor Hernández dropped the ball again and Daniel Moreno returned it to his team, although they were stopped on three downs.

Things got complicated for Pumas, as the punt sent them to their own 1-yard line. The defense penetrated Pumas' line and sacked the quarterback in their own end zone, adding two more points (15-10).

With 3:54 on the clock, Pumas played their most important series of the game.

The Pedregal team did not give up and De Juambelz found Ricardo Sainz to turn the game around. The two-point conversion was successful and the Pumas took a 18-15 lead with 1:08 left to play.

Auténticos Tigres pressed until the end, but the defense managed to hold up and Aguilar missed a 67-yard field goal attempt for Pumas to be crowned champions for the first time since 2014.
